How to Choose a Good LCD or LED Monitor for Gaming?
A Good Monitor is a necessary requirement for gaming as it enhances your overall gaming experience to the fullest level. Nowadays LCD or LED monitors comes in different sizes and specifications that can be very confusing for a novice person to choose from, but in this article I will explain you the different parameters related to a LCD monitor as to make your buying decision easier.
Firstly you should know that no every LCD screen can serve a gaming monitor because of various technicalities involved. So you must keep the following below mentioned things in your mind when getting a gaming monitor for your PC or Computer.

Gaming LCD or LED Monitor Buying Guide
Here are some very important thing that you should look for when buying a Gaming Monitor for your computer.
Screen Size
This is simply the size of the screen of your monitor screen that is measured diagonally in inches. For gaming I would recommend a monitor with screen size ranging from 20-inches to 24-inches. You will enjoy a better gaming session with bigger monitors but not too big as you will be able to see all the details, effects and graphics of the game more clearly on the screen.
Resolution
A professional gamer always prefer playing games on high resolutions because of the image clarity you can get at high resolutions. Make sure the monitor you are buying supports high resolution to up to 1920 x 1080 pixels or more. You must also keep in mind that your graphics card should also be powerful enough to run the latest demanding games on high resolutions.
Aspect Ratio
Aspect Ratio is defined as the ratio of the width of the screen to the height of the screen of a monitor. The most common type aspect ratios found in monitors are 4:3, 16:10 and 16:9. The 4:3 aspect ratio is called fullscreen and were usually found in old CRT monitors while 16:10 and 16:9 aspect ratios are called Widescreen. Monitors with 16:10 aspect ratio were popular between years 2003 to 2008 but are rarely found today, and is replaced by more popular 16:9 widescreen ratio. A 16:9 is now the standard ratio for HD (High-Definition) Movies.
The most common difference between monitors (of same screen size) having 16:10 and 16:9 ratio is that 16:9 has more horizontal area and less vertical area for viewing while 16:10 offers more vertical area for viewing with reduced horizontal space but without losing the horizontal resolution. 16:10 monitor is good for office application or office work and internet browsing as you get more vertical space and less scrolling to do. All aspect ratios have their different native resolutions as mentioned below (in pixels):-
4:3 – 640×480, 800×600, 1024×768
16:9 – 1024×576, 1152×648, 1280×720, 1600×900, 1920×1080, 2560×1440 and 3840×2160
16:10 – 1280×800, 1440×900, 1680×1050, 1920×1200, 2560×1600
For gaming and for watching movies 16:9 is the preferred choice and also as of now almost all the games and movies are made for the 16:9 screens only.
Pixel Response Time
Pixel Response Time or commonly called Response time is the time taken by the pixels of a monitor to make the transition from one image to another once it receives the signal information for the new image from the video card. In other words you can say that it is the time taken by the pixel to change from one color to another once the signal is received from the video/graphics card.
If your LCD monitor pixel response time is more then you will experience Ghosting, Blurring or Lagging in your games, which is not good for gaming. So for gaming purposes the LCD monitor response time should be 5 ms or even lesser. It is better to go for a LCD monitor with pixel response time of 2 ms to be on the safer side.
Ports or Interface
Look for advanced digital ports like DVI and HDMI in your monitor. They are digital interfaces and the image quality displayed by them is far superior as compared to VGA port.
LCD vs. LED (Backlighting)
Both the LCD and LED Monitors have the same display screen but with different backlight. Backlight is used to illuminate the Screen so that the colors and the images can be visible to you. LCD Monitor uses CCFL (Cold Compact Florescent Light) and LED Monitor uses an array of LED (Light Emitting Diodes) for Backlighting.
LED Monitors are brighter and also has better contrast than their LCD counterparts because the light emitted by a LED is much brighter. Other Advantages of LED Monitor is their longer life and lower power consumption. So it is better to go for LED Monitors for the Gaming or for other purposes too.
Brand / Company
Brand is also a very important factor when deciding a Gaming Monitor for your PC. Some good brands of LCD/LED Monitors are Samsung, LG, AOC, Dell. My recommended first two choices in order would be Samsung and LG only.
Extra Features
Some LCD monitor offers extra features like USB Hub connectivity etc. If you can find them then it will be an added advantage but these features are optional and not that necessary, so do not waste any time on them if they are not available or present.
Note: These above mentioned Tips can also be applied for a basic or normal LED / LCD Monitor.
Buy LCD / LED Monitors at Low Prices
sir, I want to buy a dell 2240t touch screen monitor currently I have lg flatron w1943 s monitor sir is touch screen monitors are nice or I have to roll back n buy a good led monitor if yes pleses kindly suggest me models within 15000
Practically there is no need to go for touch screen monitors for PC. Also you will waste a lot of money on them without gaining any additional advantage. So buy a good LED monitor only. Here are some good recommendations for you. (Prices are in approximation)
Samsung
22″-LS22C170BS (LED : DVI + VGA) – Rs. 8400/-
22″-LS22D390H (LED : HDMI) – Rs. 9350/-
LG
22″ IPS 22MP56HQ (LED : IPS HDMi + Dvi) – Rs. 8800/-
sir how about dell monitors???n can I buy 23.5 inch is it be very big for normal use… how about this monitor “Philips 238G4DHSD (3D) 23 inch LED Backlit LCD Monitor”
I do not like Dell and avoid it all the times because of their inferior quality products, especially in India. I find 23.5 inch monitors to be very big for PC use but again it is your personal choice. Philips 238G4DHSD (3D) is a good monitor and is value for money for the features it has.
bro is 3d monitor are nice with respect to price and AOC 23 inch LED Backlit LCD – D2367PH Monitor hw is this monitor n hw is aoc monitors??
If you are going to watch lot of hollowood movies fan then getting a 3d monitor might make sense otherwise not. AOC monitors are also nice and offers great value for money products. The AOC model that you have mentioned is good too and in fact better then the Philips 238G4DHSD (3D) because AOC one has pixel response time of 5ms but philips one has only 7ms.
thanks a lot sir fir ur affective advise….sir which monitor I should buy aoc one or philips one???
I would say AOC
thnks sir for ur recommendation I would definitely buy it..
sir what is a diffrence between a monitor and a led tv…both of them supports hdmi port so which is better….the aoc 3d monitor which I mentioned or this AOC LE23A6730 58 cm (23) Full HD 3D LED Television one????
A monitor can be used only with computer but LED TV if has PC input can be used as both TV and Monitor. The model you have mentioned is a TV.
so sir which is better for a computer a led tv or a monitor…and tht monitor has 2 hdmi port and my pc also gives one hdmi out port??
Depends on your purpose. For only PC work you should buy a monitor and for multipurpose i.e. TV and PC LED TV serve the purpose. So what is your purpose ?
mainly its for pc use….the aoc monitor have 2 hdmi ports…so when I want to view tv can I connect monitor through hdmi port to tata sky setup box will it work???
Yes i think it will work with Tata Sky HD setup box.
sir among two of therse aoc tv and monitor which has a best display configuration??
both are HD so it depends on your choice. For PC work only go for basic LED monitor (not 3d) as you can save some money for other upgrades or components.
ok sir thnk u soo much fr ur feedback
sir which display panel is best ips, ah-ips, TN, or va….I canot get aoc monitors in market even in advance payment also…last choice is flipcart…as there is no service here of amazon..and here there is no service center of aoc in whole state of chhattisgarh here sir is it comfortable to buy from flipcart…we cannot say about electronic products but according to u how mch prsnt chance is there of getting it damaged after getting it….
IPS is best in terms of color production and clarity but is expensive. TN is good for gaming because it has lower response time and is cheaper too. VA is not good as compared to both. It is ok to buy from flipakrt if the seller is WS Retail and i have personally had good experience with them. For service centers i should say generally monitors does not give problems as long you are using a good UPS with them.
Sir what is diffrence between 5 ms monitor and 7ms monitor…..what are cons of 7ms and 5ms monitor….and monitors which has 3d ….monitors for having 3d feature they require 3d hardware or software in built????
A lower response time means the monitor pixels responds quicker in changing color from one to another. This means it is faster in changing one image to another. Response matters especially in gaming where frame rates are much higher (well over 40 fps) as compared to normal video playback. So if your pixel response time is higher then you will experience ghosting and lagging effect in games. 3D monitors do have both the hardware & software for producing 3D effects. Also you will have wear the 3D glasses for viewing 3D content.
Thnks sir for your guidance
Sir,
I have yesterday received this aoc 3d monitor at rs. 13500 this monitor is really very nice great colur great style nd 3d is also upto the mark….but its really grat monitor…..sir I want to enable wifi in my pc I have one tenda nano usb adpter which has 150 mbs speed bt its signal strength is very weak…..so please suggest me a wifi adapter with strength up to 50 to 100 meter….also sir is pci network cards are nice or its good thn usb adpter if yes thn kindly suggest me
Thnk you sir
Wireless USB Adapter are good for quick & easy solution but they lack features and have performance issues. Internal or PCI Express Wireless cards will give you more performance and speed. To get good or strong signals try to get a PCI-E card with two or three antennas. One such good card is Asus PCE-N15 Wireless-N300 PCI Express Adapter (have 2 antennas).
TP-LINK TL-WN851ND Wireless N PCI Adapter Nic
sir how is this pci adapter
It is Good for a card within 1k range.
Than suggest me sir some good pci card brands
That TP-Link card is good for within 1k price range. TP-Link is decent brand, Don’t worry.
Sir can u tell me some point for choosing a good 5.1 home theatre nd also suggest me models and good brands
5.1 speakers are only good when yo watch lot of movies that have Dolby Digital 5.1 surround, otherwise there is no point of getting them and they also occupy a lot of space. For PC, personally i would suggest a good 2.1 speaker system that will be good for games as well as movies too. Some good brands of speakers are Altec Lansing and Logitech.
can u please…post an article about tips on chosing a good led/lcd TV..thanks in advance
I will for sure and for you can also consult this post for the same as 90% of things remain same with LED / LCD for gaming and for general purpose.

Panel of Samsung s24e90 hl is PLS type….. Which type of panel is this and is it??
It is new a display technology called plane-to-line switching or PLS. The major advantage of PLS is wide viewing angles.
AOC i2476Vwm (24″)
Sir which is best among aoc i2476Vwm and samsung 23E390HL…???
please check your comment as it is S24E390HL not 23E390HL
Both are equally good and has almost same technical specifications. I am samsung fan so i would prefer samsung but you can go with any one as both are very good products.

Hello Akshat Sir,
I am planning to buy a monitor. I have short listed following.
Please make a suitable pick for me. ( NOT NECESSARY FROM BELOW U CAN GIVE YOUR SUGGESTIONS. MY BUDGET IS 5300/- )
I occasionally play games.( Only Fifa and NOT any heavy graphics intense games)
Have to read PDF files.
Dell E1916H

Samsung LS19F350HNWXXL

LG 19M37A
http://www.lg.com/hk_en/monitor/lg-19M37A-B
Thank you sir as always 🙂
Well i would say go with LG 19M37A because of its lower pixel response time of 5ms, better contrast ratio and the reliability of LG.
Is it LED monitor or LED backlit LCD ?
How about after sale service of LG ?
Will I get good after sale service ? Is it on site service or I have to take it to service centre ?
It is LED backlit. After sales service of LG is fairly good. You have to take it to service center for major repairs. You can see more about warranty here http://www.lg.com/in/support/warranty
Should I buy LED or LED backlit.
Do they have different meaning or typically function same only ?
The LG one you suggested above is connected with VGA ?
Is this good buy or should I purchase a different monitor?
Both are same when you say normal LED monitor. There are OLED monitors but they are very expensive. LG one has VGA but if you want more connectivity options then you may also go for Dell which has both VGA and DP.
Thank u so much..!!!
I am happy with VGA 🙂
Your final recommendation based on overall performance, durability and after sale service.
Dell E1916H or LG 19M37A
I would pick LG but Dell is also nice.
Thank u for promptly solving my query as always 🙂
I will go with LG 🙂
