Build Quality & Size

The printer comes in black color and it is solidly built. The plastic used in the construction of this printer is pretty good and you do not feel that it is of cheap or inferior quality. The printer is very robust and it can suffer some rough handling too. Also the printer is pretty compact in size and does not occupy much space on your home / office desk or table.

Performance & Speed

Canon LBP 2900B does not disappoint in performance either and it is one of the best performing black and white laser printer in the budget price segment. Its major rival is HP Laserjet 1020 plus which is also a very popular and trustworthy monochrome laser printer in this price segment.

Canon LBP 2900B comes with Canon 303 Toner Cartridge but it can also support the 12A Toner Cartridge that comes fitted with HP Laserjet 1020 plus, which is a widely popular, cheap and easily available toner cartridge. A single Canon 303 Toner Cartridge can give you approximately 2000 A4 prints which is quite remarkable. You can also refill the cartridge if you run of ink. It takes around Rs. 250 – 350/- to refill the cartridge from the market. For refilling I would advise you to go for good quality ink if you want the cartridge to last longer. The printing speed of Canon 2900B is around 12 ppm (paper per minute) for A4 paper which is slightly slower than HP 1020 plus which has printing speed of 14 ppm. The printer has almost zero warm up time and can print fast from the start go. The printer is not too noisy and pretty silent in operation. The text printouts are very clear and crisp which depicts the top printing quality of this printer.

Connectivity & Features

The printer supports USB 2.0 interface for fast and hassle free printing. As it is a budget range laser printer, thus it does not come with fancy things like LAN and Wi-Fi connectivity. There are no extra features in this printer which you would normally expect from a printer in this price range. It is a printer that is meant for printing thousands of pages without breaking down or without  causing any trouble. This printer is almost maintenance free and you would not have to do anything except refilling the cartridge when it runs out of ink. Also there is no problem of paper jam in this printer no matter how old it becomes.

There is no out of the box duplex printing support in the printer nor in the driver software but you can perform duplex printing using third party software like Fine Print.

It supports Windows 10/8/7/ME/2000/XP and Linux (CUPS) operating systems.
