Foxin 450W & 500W SMPS Review – Bad PSUs
I have written many articles regarding SMPS in this blog and I have tried to cover each and every aspect of power supplies. If you have missed those articles then you can find some of them by going through the links given below.
How to Find a Good SMPS for your PC
Best Budget Branded SMPS to Buy Online
Here I will review another local branded SMPS which is Foxin and will tell you why to avoid it completely.
Foxin is an Indian brand or computer peripherals under Balaji Solutions Pvt Limited and this company is headquartered in Kolkata. You can find this information on their official website. Foxin offers small number of computer products which includes SMPS, UPS, Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers, Computer Cabinets etc. Some of the products are being labeled as coming shortly on their websites. Foxin has two models under their SMPS range, one is 450W and other is 500W. Here I talk about their two PSUs and tell you why you should avoid them.

Foxin 450W & 500W SMPS Review
Both Foxin 450 Watt and 500 Watt SMPS looks the same and their construction is also very cheap. If you have reading my blog regularly then you must have known that the most important thing to look for in a SMPS is the amount of current under 12V Rail, which should be at least 25A for running a modern day computer.
Here looking at the 12V Rail of Foxin 450W and 500W SMPS I found that it has only 16A current under 12V Rail for 450 Watt SMPS and only 24A for 550W SMPS. This is too low for powering a modern day PC and not at all recommended for a PC with graphics card. Also these power supplies are china made and look very cheap and inferior in quality. So here I strongly suggest you not to buy these inferior PSUs otherwise it can cause serious damage to your computer components.
Read here how cheap SMPS can harm your computer
If you are looking for a budget SMPS then there are better options like VIP 400R and VIP 400R Plus which are priced almost same as Foxin SMPS but are ten times better in quality as compared to Foxin PSUs.

I guess it only has 24 amps on a 12v rail because it is ” 2x(12v rail 24 amps)”
Because a single 12v 24 amps will only give 288watt on that ,so claimed 500watt psu…. But a 2x 12v 24apms will give about 576 watt which is also higher than 500watt so claimed….. It’s kinda confusing…..
Buy the way , I am using the same PSU as above ( the 550 watt one ) with my GTX 960 OC 4GDDR5 ram …..
Despite of having mid range GPU , games are freezing ( not lagging due to low FPS) Could it be the PSU low power supply…… Please do reply
I am pretty sure it is because of this crappy SMPS. I would advise you get Corsair VS550. You can get it here at very good price http://www.amazon.in/Corsair-VS-VS550-Watt-SMPS/dp/B00DQ5OB4C/?tag=aksha0b-21
Thank you for talking the time to reply sir….
Sorry for the late reply sir……..
Coincidently I also had the same Choice to go with either the corsair VS550 or the 650 . I ordered the vs 550…. I am already using a corsair H60 hydro cooler with LED for my AMD FX 8350 and a corsair cabinet…. Corsair products are high quality and awesome…..The Internet also says the same…..
Anyways , if I face any further problem , I will write u again…. Thanks
hii
I am sumank roy.
I have seen a foxin fps 800 which has two type of 12v rail named as 12v1 and 12v2 with ampere rating of 22A and 23A respectively.
can plz tell does that mean and secondly is it woth buying for 900 rupee.
See this article https://www.akshatblog.com/foxin-fps-800-smps/ and for Rs. 900 i think you can go for it.
Thank for your reply
but considering the Single vs Multiple 12v rail article of yours , Foxin fps800 beats the corsair 450. considering the price for a 500w smps
But quality of components in Corsair VS450 is much much better.
Can you plz suggest the 550w in cooler master as their are variety of 550w suplly in the same brand.
for a budget of around 3700 rupee.
I suggest Cooler Master MasterWatt Lite 550W.
what about foxin fps 800w?
No way. I don’t trust and recommend SMPS from this brand.
My rig is as follows-i5 4440-3.1-3.3 ghz
zotac gtx 750ti 2gb
8 gb strontium 1600mhz
gigabyte h81,wd 2tb hdd
I havbeen using foxin fps 800 about 1 years.i have not got any issue.
If i use corsair psu(active pfc) then i have to own expensive true sinewave ups or normal modified one fail?
A normal modified one might do but it should be a good one from reputed brands.
Can i trust microtech 1kva ups?
Microtek is nice. Other good options would be Powersafe and APC.
Should i change foxin fps 800 though it works fine for me now.
I would certainly do that but if it is working OK for you then leave it as it is for the time being. If you face any little bit of problem in future then get yourself a 550 – 600W SMPS from Corsair, Cooler Master or Antec.
Thank you sir
Can you tell me some pure sine wave (1000 va)ups name under 10k?
They are really expensive and costs more than 10k.
Then please tell me some specific ups that will work apfc psu(antec ,corssair, seasonic etc) without any issue.
Artis Powersafe 1000VA and APC BX1100C-IN Back UPS 1100VA might work well.
Last question.can i run corsair psu with our pure sinewave sukam home inverter(not ups)?
Yes you can run it but your PC may restart if the switch time of of your inverter is greater.
Thank you very much sir for your quick reply. If i run ups mode(there is a button on it,though i have not performed)
You may try it.
Before getting this foxin fps 800w(12v1=22A and that of 12v2=24A),I had 3 years old antec 450w(can’t memorise the exact model detais) which had also got two 12 volt rails(one was 23A and other 21 A) .SO total watt on 12v rail should be(12*23 plus 12*21=528w.
How can you explain this contradictory behaviour?(since my psu was only 450w capacity ).though according to you we can add the Amp of two 12 volt rails.(I have read your entire post) please neutralise my confusion.
This is because the factor Efficiency comes into play. Read here for more https://www.akshatblog.com/smps-or-psu-80-plus-certification-explained-in-detail/
That is the Maximum current a single 12V rail can provide.. It is clearly mentioned in the Antec 450W model that Total continuous output is 450W. If you add all the output VA then it will exceed the advertised wattage on any PSU, be it a cheap intex or a highly priced PSU…
Ok.i am going to buy corsair 800w(much overkill for my present system) psu for future upgrade.(specially gfx sli)
But right now my pc at idle uses power ~100w and at full load ~300w. Any problem for now?
Well for now i think you are OK.
i am using the 500w Foxin psu for an older rig comprising a core 2 duo cpu,3 gb ram,2 hdds and a gt 730 gpu.Is this psu sufficient for my system or do i need to change it in the foreseeable future? As of now,the psu appears to be working ok.
Yes you need to change it and i would suggest you to go for Corsair VS550.
Thanks, corsair vs 550 is rather expensive-will antec bp350ps suffice for my pc?
Antec BP350S will not be enough. You can also go for Corsair VS450.
Can you suggest me a good pc cabinet(under 5k) for my new gtx 1060 gpu?
I suggest you to go for Deepcool Tesseract BF Computer Cabinet. You can buy it here http://amzn.to/2e8bjXe
Dear Sir, I am in a problem,my old 20inch(50CM) samsung led monitor(1600*900) damaged after 8 years.so I purchased another LG 20inch led monitor(1600*900) in our local shop. But I noticed it is actually 19.5 inch(49.5 cm)(1600*900).So I contact them they told me 20 inch is actually 19.5 inch.(diagonally).Are they lying?what should i do? But the picture quality is better than my old one.Should i stick with it or not???
It is the same thing i.e. In general speaking 19.5 inch is termed as 20 inch. so don’t worry as the shopkeeper is not cheating you on this.
Does proper 20 inch exhist insteda of 19.5 inch?.Same thing happened( 19.5 instead of 20 inch)for my mom though it was dell brand.
Depends on the manufacturer. Most of the 20 inch monitors are 19.5 inch only.
Thank you very much sir.
Hello. Have you seen http://www.amazon.in/Foxin-FPS-800-supply-Enterprise/dp/B01BOL275O?tag=googinhydr18418-21&tag=googinkenshoo-21&ascsubtag=cf43743b-b167-4a35-a9e6-280a6bd74b02 in the description they mention it’s a 450 w smps also comes with two 12v rails have you reviewed this. How do you think this is?
It is more like a 500W SMPS and has total of 45A current on 12V rail. Quality is not good and i don’t recommend it.
Sir ,can I use a PC sound system (2.1)
without an ups?
yes you can use it
My iball doesn’t work directly on plug(sometime works) ? But does while attached with ups.
Is that a wall plug issue?
may be. try it on other socket
And can u tell me normal load power consumption of a 2.1 sound system ?(it is rated 48w under max. Peak)
it depends on the volume you have set
Thanks
Sir my I ball k9 2.1 sound system(SOME TIME after 2 hrs or more)produce s beep noise and stop working when connect to power grid.but it absolutely works well with ups. Why does it behave different.? I just want to connect it directly to plug since my ups has small capacity only 4 00w.
I suggest you to try plugging in other power socket.
Results same ! Working fine 2-3 hrs then beeps and no sound although power shows green.it’s completely absent Incase of ups.please help me out.
strange issue. is there any earthing problem at your place?
But if it’s considered then why is it working fine with ups?since ups getting power from mains.
really heard this type of issue first time.
Pleasure to inform u my sound system works fine.I have disabled the auto mode.
Good to know that.
Is iball a quality brand?
It is OK for accessories and smaller things but not good for PC components and bigger things like SMPS etc.
sir my smps is from corssair 800w.,but my friend told me it is not as good as silverstone because he said most of the corsair PSU are tier 3 on list.what is that tier stands for?
Corsair SMPS are good in Corsair also there are various series that include VS, CX, CS, RM, RX. The budget series is VS one but that does not mean that they are good. They are far better than the chinese or local branded SMPS. https://www.akshatblog.com/corsair-smps-psu-range-from-budget-to-high-end/
Thanks.
What is better a single vs dual 12 v PSU for gaming PC?
Both are good and has their own strong points. For complete details please check this out https://www.akshatblog.com/single-vs-multiple-12v-rail-smps-psu-comparison/
Sir i am using the Foxin fps 500 psu…i want to add a gtx 750 ti…Should i change the psu but if i change i have to lower the gpu cuz i am on a very very strict Budget….So plz advice me!
Yes you have to change your PSU to Corsair VS450 or VIP 400W Gold.
Ok…So can u tell me some GPU for gaming under 8000 Rupees..
The only best option under 8k is GeForce GT 730
what about r7 250??Can i use r7 250x with VIP 400watt R plus?….Can i use r7 250 or gt 730 with my existing PSU or with R plus….?
R7 250 is also good and better than GT 730 but has higher power consumption and you cannot use it with VIP 400R Plus. you should be fine in using GT 730 on this SMPS.
Sir I have just found this one .https://m.snapdeal.com/product/samsung-20-inch-ledls20b300bsxl-monitor/155108?utm_source=msite_amp
looks good but availability might be an issue
First time sir; I am gonna ask you some software related issue.I am using win 8.1 64 bit my windows is up to date. But I am unable to install 2015 c++redist.every time installation gets back wrong.that is why I cannot play re7;dishonred 2(not pirated)

Can you u tell me which one is good(only performance) ;OS is on SSD or gaming install files on ssd ? .Recently I have bought Samsung 250gb ssd
I suggest you to install OS on SSD for better performance in games and overall..
And ,has any denuvo game got bad impact on HDD or SSD?? I have googled in order to know this but someone says it has or someone not.I am confused!?!!🤔 Thanking you.
Sir, 40 to 41 degree (optimal) temp for a HDD in summer?..I am using Seagate 500gb(40 degree c at day but 38 deg c at night)
And wd blue 1tb, 39 at day ,35 degree c at night.thank u.
yes it is normal temp in summer for HDD.
Thank you sir..And what temp should I concern for my HDD?
50 and above
Sir one more ;I have got 3 case fans (all are 140mm).can u tell me their position as to get better cooling.my case top position blocked.
one fan at front and two at rear.
3 position, front, side panel, rear.just want to know side fan intake or out take.google elaborates conflicting information.confusion is hot air out from gpu or cool air in off GPU….
Front->intake, Rear-exhaust and you don’t really need a side one so just leave it
Okay I will remove it
. Actually it was inbuilt side fan. many many thanks.
Sir I am going to upgrade my rams total 16 GB.My Mobo is gigabyte h81 . maximum capacity is 16 GB 1600mhz ddr3.It has two slots, should I get one 16gb stick or two 8gb stick??.also tell me quality brand ram. and actual price.
I suggest you to go for single 16GB stick and for brand i like to suggest Corsair Vengeance.
Can one slot permit 16 GB maximum since it is h81 Mobo.? Thanks
Normally it should work but to be on the safer side you can go for two 8GB RAM sticks because max. supported memory is 16GB only.
I will. you are very resourceful person I have ever had.thank u very much.
You are most welcome.
Sir I have bought 16 GB RAM 2*8 GB @1600. (star light gold) from our local shop installed and works great .you told me to get corssair ram but currently it is unavailable. They told me that it is good quality Indian brand that is why I bought it.Any reason to worry???!
It is just an average RAM but it it working fine for you and is covered under warranty then you should be fine for now.
Sir.I am going to purchase an 1kva ups from our local shop.My preferences are Apc bx1100in (single battery)and michrotech nm36mx(double battery). As far as I concern double battery is best.what’s your recommendations? Are michrotech units quality brand??
In terms of quality and performance APC is far better.
Hi sir, i have
SMPS: iball PPS 255
MOBO: GIGABYTE – GA-B75M-D3V
PROCESSOR: I3 4TH GEN
RAM: 2x ADATA DDR3 4GB
HDD: WD GREEN 1TB
SSD: WD GREEN 240GB
GRAPHIC CARD: ZOTAC 1050Ti 4gb OC
I have a problem, when starting up i face no signal sometime, and it will solve once i reconnect the hdmi cable, is it a problem with my graphics card? I was able to use like this smoothly for almost 5months.
I think you need to change to a good SMPS. I advise you to get Corsair VS450.
I was on thoughts for cheaper psu’s like foxin and zeb
I would not suggest them.
Akshat, thanks that I found your post. Here’s my problem.
I was using Corsair VS450 SMPS on an X-ATX computer that comprised an nVidia GTX 580 graphics Card, i3-2100 cpu, 2TB WD Black HDD, a Logitech 1080p webcam, 8GB DDR3 1333 RAM, and USB Mouse and Keyboard. A week ago that system died (the motherboard somehow smoked beyond repair). Then I disassembled the parts and built a new computer using all the parts (except for the motherboard, and that discrete GPU) on an Asrock Mini ITX board inside a Foxin Mini-Tower cabinet. That cabinet can’t contain my old and trusty Corsair SMPS. So, I went by the defaults – a Foxin 450 watt SMPS that was built into that cabinet. Here’s the issue I’ve two questions:
#1 Will that Foxin 450 watt PSU suffice my power requirements (that’s about 200 watt)?
#2 I’ve no problem if the Foxin SMPS dies, I’ll of course get a better PSU no matter what the cost. But the problem is – will it damage my motherboard?
Thanks and best wishes. You’re doing a great job educating people on IT/HW stuff.
Well, it will be very risky and it may cause harm to your components if the PSU goes kaput. So, I would suggest not using it.
Thanks for the prompt reply. Please suggest a quality SMPS that will fit into mini and mid tower cabinets. My old Corsair VS450, though runs good, doesn’t fit in the cabinet.
Well, Corsair VS450 should fit in a mid-tower case. What PC case (model) do you have?
This cabinet: https://www.foxin.in/shop/foxin-mid-tower-pc-cabinet-1s-handy-classic/
What issue are you facing in installing Corsair VS450 in this case?
SMPS nut holes don’t align with the holes in the cabinet.
Well, the holes are standard which means another PSU won’t fit either.
Thank you for your response in mail. Here’s the thing — Zebrionic, iBall, Intex, Technet, Foxin SMPS are of the same form factor as far as nut holes are concerned. Antec, Seasonic, Cooler Master, and Corsair are different. Generally an Antec guy doesn’t ever use an iBall PSU, and the vice versa. By that I don’t mean that one cannot do that. As I was struggling I could put just one nut from outside the Foxin cabinet into the Corsair PSU. The PSU was almost hanging and vibrating when the PC was on high surge. That’s why I went for the default Foxin PSU that fits in its cabinet. But I’m still searching for a better PSU that will fit in. Seems like a far cry. Wish me luck, maybe I’ll get one.
